Pay-per-mille is a measurement used in online advertising. "Mille", in Latin, French and Italian, means one thousand and thus pay-per-mille is the cost an advertiser pays for one thousand views or clicks of an advertisement. Pay-per-mille is used as a benchmarking metric to determine the approximate cost of an ad campaign in a given medium and often its purpose is to compare the costs of advertising campaigns across different media. Radio, television, newspaper, magazine and other typical advertising can be purchased on the basis of showing the ad to one thousand viewers or listeners.
