A Domain Name is a name registered with one of the Internet Registrars and most often is associated with a web site address, however, it is not required.
Domain Names are names baed on the Domain Name System, or DNS.
Domain Names are used in various programs, like: Web Browsers, FTP Clients, Email programs, development tools, to refer to a Server located somewhere on the internet.
Domain Names make it simpler to locate that server instead of using an IP Address, which is much harder to remember, and also less portable.
Domain Name is sometimes synonymous with Host.
